Counterfeit Kit Challenge February member blog hop

Hey! Glad you're here today. This is the last stop on the Counterfeit Kit Challenge member blog hop this month.

You should have reached me via the adorable Janine but you can find the full blog hop list at the end of my post as well as finding your way to the beginning of the hop back at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog.

The challenges on offer this month were:

I decided to have a go at the title challenge - to create an unexpected title and I had a vision in my mind which didn't really materialise, if truth be told! But that's ok because I like the overall effect of the layout and it was fun to try something new.

I almost always turn to my large collection of Thickers for my titles and then might add in mini stickers to add more variety so my challenge was to keep my hands off the Thickers and try my hand at stitching! I had a perfect picture of neat, swirly, sewn title matched up with some October Afternoon Mini Market stickers for something very unexpected for me. Mmmm.... the neat and swirly part certainly didn't work. I think that my gold thread was rather lumpy bumpy for such a small font so lesson learnt.

But the topic of the layout was something I wanted to capture and I certainly don't want to waste that gorgeous My Mind's Eye paper so I'm satisfied to add it to my pile of layouts to be filed away sometime this century...

This is layout #3 from my February Counterfeit kit, Runaway

Thanks for dropping by and please let me know you were here! It's always lovely to see who's been to say hello :-)

Counterfeit Kit Challenge February kit reveal blog hop

Welcome to the Counterfeit Kit Challenge February kit reveal!

Nice to have you here. Hopefully, you've arrived from Margie's blog and are already full of fabulous inspiration for building your own kit, but if you've arrived here direct, you can find the full blog hop list at the end of this post or back over at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog. Make sure you drop in at our Guest Designer Doris's blog too - she'll be sure to impress!

This month, we were given a wonderful "Across the Miles" kit from Scrapbook.com which has one of my favourite wishlist papers - gold foil globe design on vellum! (If only I could find it over here!)

There's lots of airmail stripes, a smattering of gold and plenty of directions to take with the papers and travel theme.

Here's the gorgeous original kit for you.

After making up my Pinterest CKC February board with the contents of the kit, I realised that I had the gold foil dot paper from the Market Street collection by My Mind's Eye and that was my starting point for the rest of my kit which became "Runaway".

I went through the Market Street papers I had and picked out a few that seemed to match up the theme of the original - a globe paper, arrows and one or two colours which matched. Then I decided that I needed a gold foil vellum, a dark blue by BasicGrey, a cloud print by Crate, a ombre pink design by Webster's pages instead of the Webster's bokeh and also some pieces of veneer paper. Then I filled it up with some other prints which I thought would give me some good variety and would match up with Across the Miles - some red tones, a pink, another map print and two sheets with some yellow elements. Not really a piece by piece match but with all those double sided prints, I think I will get some super colour combinations.

Time to add in the fun stuff - lots and lots of embellishments. Gold foil as well as a few with suitable colours and prints PL style cards in both sizes, flowers which I don't use so often any more and would like to get onto some of my layouts and loads of wood veneer shapes from the BasicGrey Carte Postale collection.

I added in a whole range of die-cuts in travel themes by both BasicGrey and October afternoon and some wash tape in airmail colours and a handful of geotag veneers by Studio Calico.

There are some travel themed pockets and some teeny tiny airmail envelopes. There are even quite a lot of travel die-cut items that I didn't photograph but which will be sitting in the kit pizza box in case I need them!

The label stickers are replaced by a selection of stickers with travel theme and from the Market Street collection.

The original kit has wood dots, veneer sequins and some flair so I just matched them up with what I had - woodgrain dots, sparkly sequins (very Lisa!) and some BasicGrey flair from Carte Postale.

All in all, very much a Lisa kit and with the travel elements as well as the golds and pinks, I think I will be able to complete a wide variety of pages. It may not look much like the original - yet again! - but the inspiration is there as is the feeling I have when I look at it! It'll get plenty of airing in February as of course, it's LOAD month. Unlikely to be a full month for me but I'm hoping to achieve at least 20 layouts and none of those would be possible without my Counterfeit kits. I'm hoping that this kit can give me 8 or 9 pages. How many do you aim for from your kits?

What do you think? Too far from the original or would you like to dip into it and see what you could create with it?!?

Thanks for dropping by today and off you go now to see what fabulous items Julene has pulled together. Here's the list in case you get lost along the way.

February will be a great month for so many reasons so I hope you will join me along the way. As ever, I'd like to be here on my blog more so let's keep our fingers crossed!
