Fröhliche Friday!

I know I've away for a long time but I'm back to my Jingling self this week.

I'm over the moon and delighted to be Guest Designer over at Jingle Belles because those girls are the best pre-Christmas, Christmas card-making fun you can have.

As those of you who know my scrapbooking, you'll know that I am on a total gold rush (pun intended) at the moment so it seemed obvious that gold would be my prompt.

I'm thrilled to be able to share my first design with you here.

I wanted to find as many different golds and textures as I could to bring together onto one card. The sequins were a new purchase (in love) as well as a new supply of gold doilies. The reindeer and garland were cut from foil card using the Cameo (more in love) and then I matched them up with a gold glitter paper band, some Studio Calico gold letters (very much in love and needing more in my stash). Everything was backed by a simple striped paper and some cream cardstock. I make that five different gold materials. Love!

While I was at it, I ran up a second one. After all, I've not made any cards for ages and need to catch up!

We'd love to see you joining in on my challenge over at Jingle Belles! The more the merrier.

And I can promise you that getting ahead of that Christmas crafting now will give you SUCH a warm fuzzy feel-good feeling!  :-)

There's only 17 more Fridays till Christmas after all. Ha ha!

14 loves {August 2014}

Welcome to the next in the series {14 loves} for 2014 based on the original concept by my beloved friend, Pam, back in January 2013. I enjoyed sharing my loves so much through the year that I decided I needed to continue through 2014. I hope you will come back each month to see if there is anything in my list to inspire you. You can find previous posts  {here}

I hope there's something in here to inspire you or maybe just make you smile.

one

We managed a small road-trip cross-country to Berlin. I've been once before when the Brandenburg Gate was hidden behind a facade, so it was top of my list of sights to visit this time around. I was thrilled with this shot of the iconic monument.

two

At the end of my {14 lovesJuly 2014, it was the evening of the FIFA World Cup final and we were all hoping that Germany would be victorious. They were. The feel good feeling is still to be found and we are all so very proud!

three

I haven't managed to participate in the Jingle Belles challenge for some time. The girls over there are the best inspiration around for getting ahead with all those Christmas cards.  All I can say is, watch this space for a little festive something that I've been up to recently.

four

I've been slowly working through my small supply of mini gold doilies. I was overjoyed to find a few packs in town and promptly purchased them all!

five

Another Berlin landmark that was just round the corner from our hotel and another on my list to capture. When we were there before, it was at the beginning of my digi photo days and certainly before my iPhone addiction. I had a lot of fun this time around making sure I captured some better photos.

six

As part of my de-cluttering, I sorted out some washi tapes and sent them along to my niece. She'd been most taken by my selection when I stayed there in May and I knew she'd have some fun sticking with abandon. I was right. Thanks to my sister for this shot.

seven

When Pam tagged me with details of these limited edition Kelly Purkey 3x4" stamps, I knew I had to get them. They are perfect and as soon as I get my hands on my NYC photos again, they will be part of the kit I'll be making for all those New York pages!

eight

I was scanning some of my old Philippine photos recently for a DT page and this one just took me right back to Pukka Beach on Boracay back in 1998. Seems like yesterday. Time flies.

nine

My new/old job is enjoyable but challenging. English grammar can be really difficult!

ten

Ongoing packing, packing, packing. Getting there. I'm excited for the move and for our new home.

eleven

Someone had their first day of school and was very, very excited. Although she was a little skeptical about what she could learn as she already knows her alphabet, her numbers and can read!

twelve

I've been enjoying working my way through old episodes of SATC recorded off Sky. I still love watching Carrie and the girls no matter how often I watch it.

thirteen

The main reason we were in Berlin. Such a highlight for me to see this exhibition in the city where he lived for two years and which had such an influence on his music at that time. David Bowie is.... simply awesome.

The Scrapabilly August kit (here) featuring Webster's Pages Ocean Melody was a joy to use. Ocean Melody is one of the loveliest collections I've worked with in a long time. I made six pages I love and hope to get them onto the blog in the next few days. I ended up buying all the papers again so that I could continue making those feel-good pages.

Id love you to share your own {14 loves} lists with me. Why not link up in the comments below?

Counterfeit Kit Challenge August member blog hop

Welcome to this month's Counterfeit Kit Challenge member blog hop!

Hopefully, you've reached me via Cindy after working your way through the all the participants. If not, you can hop back to the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog (here) so that you can start right at the beginning and not miss a thing!

This month we were challenged with the following prompts:

Challenge #1:  One Layer Challenge: No paper layering allowed - just embellishments.

Challenge #2:  Sketch Challenge: Stretch this card sketch to suit you.

Challenge #3:  Vellum: Incorporate vellum into your project.

Now challenge 1 is just mean for a layering girl like me *wink*, so I've decided to incorporate two challenges in one and use the sketch from challenge #2 to make a layout using vellum Ã  la challenge #3 - one of my all time favourite scrappy products. Win-win.

If you look closely at my layout, the original sketch IS there! I've got the four vertical blocks as a starter. Then I've replaced the chevrons with two doily elements, dropping one. Then I've reinterpreted the horizontal strips with lace and wound twine. I'll be adding journalling to give my niece a few words of advice after her first day of school.

Counterfeit Kit Challenge August kit reveal blog hop

Welcome to August and to another new kit to be inspired by courtesy of the Counterfeit Kit Challenge!

Nice to see you here. Hopefully you've been hopping along and have just visited Susanne at Snaps and Snippets where she has no doubt delighted you with her clever kit creation. If not, you might want to start at the beginning of the hop over at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog. A highlight today is that Sherri is back as Guest Designer! We are thrilled to have her join us this month so make sure you say hi to her over at her blog here.

This month's inspiration comes from the ever-popular Studio Calico. Penny Arcade (check it out here) is full of fun colours and themes, and as always the case with SC, there are so many kits, add-ons and extras to choose from. I was particularly drawn to the Penny Arcade card kit (here)

It's quite some time since I last made a card kit and I decided it would be fun to get out my mini-pads and see what I could come up with.

First of all, let me present my (much) larger-than-the-original card kit, Connect!

Let me explain how I matched my kit to the original before it exploded into something much, much bigger!

The original kit has four cardstocks: kraft, cream, white and grey so I started there. Then I looked at the designs and colour tones of the 6x6 papers and matched them up this way:
  • Map paper - 1x Studio Calico black and white and 1x BasicGrey pink toned map
  • Black on white brush-script - BasicGrey black and white chevron
  • Olive green with white spots - BasicGrey 1x green with small white/black dots & Dear Lizzy 1x lemon with white dots
  • Orange with large letters - no direct match but I selected an 8x8 inch October Afternoon paper with arrows and words
  • Pink painted effect - BasicGrey pink distressed design
  • Yellow striped - StudioCalico white and yellow paper dolls
  • Cloud - 1x BasicGrey sunburst and clouds & 1x BasicGrey sky/clouds
  • Brown with white scallop stripes - Dear Lizzy woodgrain and white chevron
  • White and grey feather - 1x Dear Lizzy grey with white spot and 1x Dear Lizzy mint green with white grid lines and spots
I also added in a Dear Lizzy stripe because it went with the other papers.

Then I matched up the embellishments from the original kit:
  • Twine - pink and white striped MME twine
  • Word and icon stamps - Large number stamps and a travel set which matches some of the papers
  • Banner die - BasicGrey banner/flag embellishments
  • Mixed buttons - buttons in yellow, pink, blue, green and white
  • Black and white ribbon - black chiffon ribbon with white polka dots
  • Bright coloured doily - pink patterned doiley
  • Star veneer shapes - mix of Studio Calico star veneers

Then I looked at the original papers and decided that I would add another selection to match the travel and summer theme of the kit.

And some more embellishments which I thought I'd need to create a batch of cards.

  • Black ribbon and white lace
  • Yellow and white striped twine
  • More pink and blue toned doilies
  • Several mini-alphas
  • BasicGrey flair buttons
  • Star sequins in blue, white and silver
  • Pastel toned enamels
  • Summer themed stamps
  • More BasicGrey banners/flags

If you put this all together, you get this monster kit!

I have combined 6x6 papers from Dear Lizzy Neapolitan; BasicGrey What's Up, pb&j, Wander, Konnichiwa & Mellow; Studio Calico Abroad; and October Afternoon Travel Girl (8x8 mini pad), not to mention all those mixed embellishments! I think that there's enough in here to make many, many cards and even a layout or two depending on how the mood takes me (if I add in more cardstock!).

As always, I reserve the right to add extras in to the kit as I go along and items such as inks, mists and cardstock are "free items".

Here are a few close ups of all those goodies:

I'm looking forward to diving in to this kit and seeing what comes out of it!

Which of the many Penny Arcade kits will catch your eye today? Leave me a comment to share and let me know you were here!

I'm at the end of the hop today but here's the full list in case you've got lost along the way!
