November 2022 - Counterfeit Kit Challenge Kit Reveal and Hop

I'm thrilled that it's November again - my favourite month of the year - and it's going to be a busy one this time around!

In fact, it's very early in the morning of the first here in Germany and I've only just managed to put my kit together and get it photographed. So please excuse the less than stellar photos! But it looks like this is a sign of what is to come this month. And I'm going to try and embrace the chaos rather than let it stress me. Wish me luck!

Now, down to business.

I'm in charge of the kit business in November at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge and I love getting the chance to pick out a kit that feels right for the month to come.

I selected the Scrapbook Werkstatt October 2022 kit “Herbstzauber” and I think it's rather lovely for something  a bit different for autumn. It's not a kit that directly makes you think of falling leaves and pumpkin spice but there are enough motifs, patterns and colours for you to take it in any direction you want. (The kit is no longer available on the site but we have linked to the Scrapbook Werkstatt main page!)

You can find inspiration from the Scrapbook Werkstatt team here.

Scrapbook Werkstatt October 2022 kit “Herbstzauber”

Here is my "Falling" kit.

I started off with the green paper from the Paige Evans Wonders collection and then added in the blue, the stripe, the hearts and the blue ombre type paper before moving onto Crate Paper where I included the cut-apart sheet and the tickets which definitely reminded me of the original kit.

I then scoured through my Jen Hadfield, Vicki Boutin, Shimelle, Heidi Swapp and PinkFresh Studio to complete my 12 papers - that's a lot for me! I think I ticked all the design boxes - stripes, circles, ledger, spots, small print, watercolour effect, tickets...

I think my papers have turned out a lot softer and pinker than the original kit but I know that I have the b-sides and that bottom row of papers will help add a pop of stronger stuff when I want it!

Then I simply went through my Pinkfresh Studio supplies and picked out a large and a small alphabet, some die cuts and some other puffy / chipboard / sticker elements with brighter and softer colours before heading over to my enamel dot collection to make sure I had enough shapes and shades.

My wooden Shimelle buttons match the inspiration kit and for good measure I threw in some bright banners from Paige Evans and some gold puffy embellishments from the Jen Hadfield collection.

I'd say there are definitely elements which are very similar to the original kit but my version is a bit softer and less bold. But I think it's going to work for some of the layouts I have in mind for this month. Let's see if I can manage more than one single layout this month!

To finish off, I'd like to make sure that I give a big shout out to our wonderful Guest Designer Machelle who is well known to the CKC community and we are delighted to have her with us again this month.

Right - let's get this month started!

Here is the hop list so that you don’t miss out on any of the team’s inspiration:

October 2022 - Challenge #2 - Go Big or Go Home!

It's challenge time over at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge and MF Leslie has asked us to "Go Big or Go Home!"

I'm there for it!

As you know, I'm ALWAYS late making my layouts and this month was no exception. However, it worked to my advantage as I took a gorgeous photo while walking the dog at lunchtime yesterday and just knew that I wanted to scrap it as soon as possible.

Printing it extra large (A4) gave me the chance to really let it shine and do most of the work on the page.

I used my very precious CratePaper hearts design paper as a full background (with the tiniest of cardstock margin around the edge) and then trimmed out the scallop b-side from the manufacturer strip to add a little interest down the side.

Looking into my kit, I realised that there are not many embellishments which I might need to think about for the next page I make but the frames I'd included were a nice addition and a perfect landing spot for a couple of gems and a label.

Some matching gems at the top of the page are the only other embellishments I felt the page needed.

The top of the photo seemed like the right placing for the title and my very minimal journalling. Job done!

I don't scrap as much as I used to these days and it feels a bit more of an effort that it did in the past, but pages like this make me happy.

It feels a little "old school" with the Maggie Holmes and the slightly grungy colours - and I like it! It doesn't mean that I want all my pages to look like this, but I think it fits the photo and the way I wanted the page to feel.

There are some other takes on this challenge over at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge so don't forget to check them out and share your own pages over at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge FB community here or on IG where you can find and tag us (@counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcoctober2022)

October 2022 - Counterfeit Kit Challenge Kit Reveal & Hop

Welcome to October and a new inspiration kit over at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge.

MF Leslie is in charge this month and has picked a gorgeously vintage kit from A Cherry On Top. But first, a very warm welcome to our Guest Designer Nikki Ihus - so lovely to have her with us in October.

And now onto our new inspiration kit. As I mentioned, Leslie has picked out a kit from A Cherry On Top - their August Cherry Box which features 49 & Market.

You can see the full unboxing video over on YouTube here - it's long but worth it!

I loved all the soft subtle colours and designs and decided to just go with the flow of what it said to me! I don't have any 49&Market but it did shout out CratePaper to me so that's what I went with. It have taken a slightly different direction to the original but that's what we are all about here at The Counterfeit Kit Challenge

As this is most definitely not a white based kit, I've decided to just go with that side of things (I'll need to source some non-white cardstock!) and therefore, here is "Ivory"

I filled my papers with muted colours and patterns from Crate Paper - starting with the yellow sunburst which definitely reminded me of the inspiration kit - as well as some Jen Hadfield and then built my kit from there.

Some alphas in different sizes, embellishments in earth tones as well as some frames that caught my eye. Enamel dots are always a good idea and some very very very old, vintage washi tape too - will it still work I wonder!

A handful of stickers, some Heidi Swapp word stickers and elements as well as some clips which I thought could be fun!

I think I will be adding in a few additional items throughout the month and must remember to use some stamps and punches for the butterfly inspiration. But other than that, I think I'm done!

This is a different kit for me - compared to what I've been using recently - but I am looking forward to the challenge!

Now, here is our full hop list in case you get lost along the way:

You KNOW that we always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us over in our Facebook Communityor share them on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcoctober2022).

September 2022 - Counterfeit Kit Challenge kit reveal and hop

It feels like an age since I've been here.

Maybe it is.

I'm sure it is...

Anyway, here I am again for the September Counterfeit Kit Challenge September reveal and you are going to love it.

MF Juliet has picked out the Traci Reed "Wildflowers" digital kit for us this month and it's gorgeous! Look at that colour scheme and all those gorgeous designs

You can find out all the info here including detail shots of the papers, embellishments and digital stamps.

Traci Reed - Wildflowers

Now, you might consider that I've gone a bit rogue but wait, first let me show you the kit I've made and where I took my inspiration before casting me to the bears.

Here's "Hush"

The first caveat I'd like to give is that this is another "collection" based kit and I definitely want to get back to mixing up papers and collections more in the new year - I miss that randomness that comes with really pick 'n' mixing. Second up, there are quite a few older items in here which may or may not make an appearance on pages or projects - I've added them in to get some variety, but I'm not sure. Let's see!

So... how did this kit come together. I checked out the inspiration kit and noted that the main colours were simply shades of yellow, green and blue. Easy right ... except I don't seem to have much yellow. Then my eyes fell on the Simple Stories "Heart" collection which I totally adore but have only scratched the surface of in my own scrapbooking. It seemed to tick my boxes with the colours - mostly greens, blues and yellows - and also the patterns - stripes, plaid, hearts, flowers and small repeated patterns.

Papers were picked and then I went from there.

A bunch of much used alphabets in large and small - gold, green and neutral.

The items from the collection including washi, die-cuts and a book of stickers.

Left over enamel dots which no kit can be without.

And then some really old items - some twines and ribbons, canvas labels, die-cut photo frames, brads in the right colours and also some hexagons - strike! - a few floral die cuts left over from a long used up collection and then a handful of flowers, leaves and veneer which I often forget to include these days.

Et voila! A kit which is not at all new but still feels fresh and usable. Time will tell of course - as in all my kits but I have hopes of using this for at least a layout or two and maybe a mini-book project. The theme of the papers might be about loss and memories but I feel I can work around that to come up with a neutral set of projects - scrapbooking is all about the memories after all!

Here's the full hop so that you can track down all the inspiration including our delightful DT Christine!

So, there you have it - another first of the month, but as always, a really good one! You KNOW that we always love to see your work, so please share your kits and projects with us. You can post them in our Facebook Communityor share them on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcseptember2022).

July 2022 - Counterfeit Kit Challenge July kit reveal and hop

When did that happen? Where did June go? If you know, can you let me know because I have NO idea!

But here we are and it's 1st July which can only mean one thing - another Counterfeit Kit Challenge inspiration kit and reveal hop.

So let's get to it.

This month, MF Tina picked out the May Round Trip 12x12 Add-on kit by Citrus Twist Kits which is full of pinks, blues and yellows, and shouts out summer travel loud and clear!

May Round Trip 12x12 Add-on kit by Citrus Twist Kits

You can find out all the details of this kit as well as see more detail photos over at the Citrus Twist site and at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog this morning.

Here's my kit, "Fernweh".

(Not the best photos this evening I'm afraid! I can't seem to catch the right light 😳)

To be honest, I took my inspiration mostly from the July Moodboard I created for our Sneak Peek with the strong colour scheme, travel focus and cute embellishments and concentrated on two collections by Carta Bella - Let's Travel and Summer Market. I included a lot of partial sheets and just loved the blue, pink and yellow colours even if those shades don't exactly reflect those in the original Citrus Twist kit!

July 2022 Moodboard

Here are my papers:

Look at all the cute motifs - they reminded me of the travel tags and labels in the inspiration kit.

And I loved that there were some florals and more neutral designs which means that I'm not limited to travel layouts.

Then I added in the die-cut packs and sticker sheets that originally came with these collections to see if I can get some used up. I'm a bit disappointed with myself that they don't really seem well used. I sometimes struggle to use up all the bits from a collection even though I "have" to have them all!

Doilies in a range of blue tones, pinks and a yellow. If I need to, I might also add in some white. I haven't used doilies for some time so that is a challenge for myself. I also included some tags - I like the idea of using them on the page even if the reality doesn't always pan out!

And of course, a selection of enamel dots and some Pinkfresh puffy sequins that are way too old and really should be used up!

To finish off, I threw in a whole bunch of alphas in all different sizes, styles and colours. Again, older product needs using up so here's the challenge for me.

HEre's the hop so you don't miss out on any of the kits today and don't forget to say hi to our wonderful Guest Designer Clem!

You know that we love it when you play along with us so don't forget to share. Post them in our Facebook Community, or share them on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcjuly2022).

June 2020 - Counterfeit Kit Challenge kit and hop

Welcome to June (how is that possible???!) and to a new month at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge where MF Kate has picked out the November 2021 kit from Dani Peuss (here) for us.

It's a kit filled with a lot of Paige Evans's Bungalow Lane collection but still has plenty of different colours and motifs to fit different times of year and even different directions of kit. Personally, I love the pinks, blues and kraft tones along with the florals and hearts!

I have quite a lot of the Bungalow Lane collection but I wanted to see what I could do if I started with just one piece of paper from that line and worked through the "feeling" of the kit for my own kit.

So let me introduce you to "Solstice" with a nod to the upcoming mid-summer's day and the florals and shades of summer.

First of all, I picked out the blue background with pink leaf design (#16) and went from there.

Next up were two sheets of BasicGrey in shades of pink that just happened to catch my eye while I was tidying up and I thought the pinks were perfect.

Then I came across some Buenos Dias and something seemed to match so in they went. Then two spotted papers from Simple Stories and finally, the tag papers from the Bungalow Lane collection as well as some off cuts from the collection and two pieces of Crate Paper which just seemed to need to be included with the florals and birds!

For good measure I also included the Bungalow Lane acetate which is covered in gold and florals - so pretty if I can find a way to include it in my projects!

From there I added in almost all the embellishments else I have in the Bungalow Lane collections because I would really like to get it used up and... why not!

I added in some mini-alphas from Simple Stories in a good selection of shades as well as a few sheets of vellum effect letters from Studio Calico.

My eye then came across some old stickers which need to be used up or else they need to be donated somewhere else, a selection of enamel dots and a handful of washi tape.

For those of you with a keen eye, you might notice that at least one of the washi tape and the Thickers stickers have visible chew marks and yes, I still love my dog 😉 (although on that day, it was somewhat harder 😉 😉!)

And there you have it - a kit fit for summer, for all sorts of layouts and for all sorts of moods. I'm excited where this kit will take me as I haven't had a full kit for a few months and I just unpacked ALL my layout and card kit boxes back into my stash so this is my ONLY kit at the moment! I hope for at least four layouts so watch this space to see how I do.

Here is the full blog hop so you don't miss out on any of the fun or inspiration and don't forget to share your kits and creations in our Facebook Community or on Instagram (we are @counterfeitkitchallenge or tag us using #counterfeitkitchallenge and #ckcjune2022)!
