I was worried...

... when I first saw this week's challenge over at Jingle Belles.

Shape Up For The Holidays?

What?

They want me to do some exercise when creating?

Nooooooo!

But then I read the challenge and saw that, phew, what they wanted was for us to create non-standard shaped cards. What a relief!

And then I started to worry again. Different card shapes? Mmmm, pretty difficult for me to think outside the box of my standard 6 3/4" x 4 3/4" card that I make every week. But determined to take on the challenge, I grabbed my Cricut Christmas Cheer cartridge to see if I could get inspired - and yes, I did!

I decided to go with the pretty sleigh on the cartridge and took it from there.

I adore the result (although I have no idea what envelope I can use with it!)!

Don't think I'll be making many like this as it was intricate and tested my patience a bit but as a one off, perfect.

  5. I usually include big cards like this inside of boxes when I mail gifts (then no envelope is required) or you could use a larger manila envelope too ... or even follow tutorial to make your own envelope. I love all of the amazing detail ... so very festive. Thanks so much for joining us at jingle belles.

  6. Wow! I didn't even know you could get a cartridge to do something like this..Though I do know it's the human finishing touches that make it so special!

  7. Ooooohhh, Lisa, this is the best! I love the shadow behind each present, though I can imagine that would try my patience too. Not a card to mass produce for the holidays. Your sleigh shape card is gorgeous! You may want to slip this card in the gift bag without an envelope. I have a stash of Cricut cards that I don't have envelopes for, and this is my usual solution ;)

  8. oooooooooooooooh! for someone who was *WORRIED* about shaped cards this is a brilliant design for one, missus! i love every single bit of it, but ESPECIALLY the angled striped paper for the sleigh (so GREAT for that!) and the tiny black square alphas arranged casually/carefully for the sentiment! ♥FAB♥U♥LOUS♥!!!

ps: my clever colleague has already given my "oversized card" tip... attach it to a present that's being mailed... it decorates the (inner, wrapped) box and doesn't need an envie! :)

  15. Gorgeous! One of my favorites of all the Christmas cards! I saw your project on my phone and had to take a better look...I can now access Google Reader easily from my new cell phone and still trying to figure out everything, but at least I can keep up with blogs easier than ever before! Anywho, I have loosely planned Christmas card creation after school starts and will definitely be using you as my source of inspiration!
