Counterfeit Kit Challenge - August 2020 kit reveal and hop

Just yesterday it was the middle of winter and now here we are on the 1st August! ;-)

Anyway, time is flying and there's nothing we can do about that than think, "Welcome to a new month!"

Hopefully, you've reached me for the Counterfeit Kit Challenge kit reveal and hop from the ever prolific Julene and next up is sweet Leslie. Of course, you won't want to miss out on our wonderful Guest Designer Gina and as ever, you can find the full hop list at the end of the post. Make sure you catch up with everyone today as I think there's some fabulous takes on this month's inspiration kit.

Master Forger Tina is in control this month and she's selected the gorgeous Hip Kit Club main kit from August 2019 for us. It's fresh and modern and has a hint of purple which is interesting - in a good way! I really like the mix of yellows, oranges, reds, blues and purples here which I think is a combination you don't often come across. I always love what the Hip Kit Club put together and this one was no different.

Hip Kit Club - August 2019 main kit

As you can see, my take on the inspiration kit came out a bit differently but overall, I think I have captured the essence! Well, for me anyway. It's definitely a little toned-down compared to the original kit - hence my kit name - but I think it will work for me!

Here is Mellow

To start my process, I made a note of the main colours and designs I could see and picked out three sheets of paper as my starting point: Rise and Shine (bold stripes) from Amy Tangerine's Oh Happy Day; Ticket to Ride (repeated rectangles in the form of tickets) from Pink Paislee's Atlas and #13 (with the houses) from Paige Evan's collection.  To me they picked out the main themes (houses, repeated shapes and bold colour blocks) as well as the colours (lilac, yellow, orange and blues). From there I looked through my stash to find florals, circles, bright repeated patterns, stars, and geometric and tried to incorporate as many of the colours as I could - tones of yellow, pink and blue and making sure to bring in some purple! Yes, far, far away from the original - but everything is there all the same!

Next up, I have to admit that I was a little short of time so I made it easy for myself by rummaging through my Pinkfresh Studio supplies and adding in a bunch of embellishments to match up some of the original kit items - words, die cuts, alphabet, puffy shapes and labels. I had already added two sheets of Pinkfresh Studio paper to my kit, so that seemed like a good idea and I noticed that several of the packages were almost untouched. Time to give those a go!

As a last thought, I added in a sheet of dots that brought more of the purple tones in. Perfect!

There will be some extra items that I'll no doubt be adding in to this as I go through the month because I don't often limit myself to just one supplier for embellishments but overall, I think this kit will work for me and I'm hoping it will help boost my mojo a little!

I created one single page in July :-( Even though I'm 100% enjoying the time with my puppy and don't want to miss a second, I do miss my creative time a little ;-)

As always, there is a lot going on over at the CKC blog this month so don't forget to check it all out as well as say hi to all the hoppers today!
