Counterfeit Kit Challenge July kit reveal blog hop

Ok, it's official! The second half of the year has begun. 6 months has already passed and just another 6 left. Time is, as ever, flying and this is the 7th kit reveal of the year!

So, welcome to the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog hop for this new beginning. And this is also the first month with the new team at CKC and along with some familiar faces (me, Angela, Jemma, Lynette and Millisa), I'm thrilled that we have some new amazing talent to delight us all (Ashley, Dawn, JuleneLesley G, Leslie S, Stephanie). Please make sure you stop by everyone this month as they are fantastic and you don't want to miss their inspiring kits.

But in the meantime, if you came here by way of Lesley G (I'm in a Lesley/Leslie sandwich now - he he!) you are on the right track but if you came here directly, you can find the beginning of the hop back at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog.

This month we have the talented Laura as a GD so be sure to say hi to her too.

We were given a humungous kit to counterfeit this month courtesy of "Scrapbook and Cards Today". Their Delivered kit (see here) is one big, gorgeous kit and a great place to start.

Delivered by Scrapbook & Cards Today

Looking at the inspiration picture here it doesn't seem as big as it was - I printed out the list and it seemed to go on forever.

To start, I created a Pinterest board (here) to show me all the products that needed to be found in my own stash.

I was happy to find that I had a few of the items in the kit - exaggeration, in fact one sheet of paper and some enamels. But I found a whole lot of items in my stash that were very similar and I went with a lot of stuff from the Simple Stories Urban Traveler as well as the I (heart) Summer collection. I matched up most of the papers and embellishments item by item finding similar products, colours, designs and then I did something I don't do so often - I counterfeited some items. I really am quite a lazy counterfeiter and don't actually make my own products so often but I had some time on my hands and ended up creating counterfeit:

  • chalkboard Thickers using my Cricut and a lot of pen work
  • the summer words stickers using nothing but Word and my printer
  • coloured clothes pins using some mists (not so successful) and some tapes
  • kraft photo dies using a stamp and some kraft cardstock
  • cut apart papers and journalling cards as well as the Elle's Studio tidbits using some free printables from Pinterest
I am seriously patting myself on the back right now. I will be posting the details of a few of these forged projects on the 8th as part of Lynette's round up on the CKC blog "Hey... I can make THAT!" so come back then to check out what I did.

However, let me now introduce my kit, Escape

It's a bright, summery kit with plenty of travel themed items which will be really flexible when I think about both sides of the papers I've selected as well as the hundreds of embellishments.

I never really list the details of what I've included in the kits I make up but if anyone would like to see how I matched each of the items in the inspiration kit, leave me a comment and I will see what I can do.

I selected some cardstocks

And then some papers. I can see that I need to purchase some black and white based papers. There are several of those around at the moment and I don't have any so I changed it out for a grey/black design. The red paper was also hard to find a match for but my treasured CC Dutch Girl is a good alternative and adds a good pop of colour.

Then as always, the fun bit of selecting embellishments

I fished out all the star topped pins and chipboard hearts I had and it will be good to see them used up as these are all old products. Then there's thread and twine in bright yellow, some green and red buttons (I thought the idea of one of each colour a bit stingy so limited myself to three of each). I cut out some words from my Cricut less than successfully so we will see if I use them. The printables cut apart journalling elements have really bulked out the kit and I also printed some pie chart papers in two sizes which matches a couple of products in the inspiration kit. I found some twill ribbon that isn't really as dark as the original but would be good to be used - again a really old product. My word stickers are not yet stickers but as I cut them out I can zip them through the mini Xyron I have to get them glued up.

And here is the full kit. A huge kit which will keep me going a long time. This is the kind of kit which will take a long time to tire of. And I cleared out three older kits yesterday evening so I only have June's and this one left to keep me going through the next weeks. Excited to get going.

Now off you go to the delightful Leslie (so thrilled she made the team!) to see what she has in store for you.

Here is the full blog hop list in case you get lost along the way. There’s a few new faces here so please make sure you stop by everyone and welcome them to the team!
